A Holiday In Burnham-on-Sea

A perfect seaside holiday, by my reckoning, needs only two things; a sandy beach and a flexible timetable. After all with small children the ‘breakfast is served between 7 and 8’ kind of place doesn’t work, so like many parents, we find that a simple self catering holiday is the answer. A holiday in Burnham-on-Sea provided the perfect sandy beach.

Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset

We rented a cottage in Berrow, just outside the town of Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset. The cottage was on a farm so as well as the beach there was the bonus of farm animals wandering past the back door too. Berrow has the most magnificent sandy beach, stretching as far as the eye can see. The town of Burnham-on-Sea itself has a shabby-genteel charm and boasts its own beautiful sandy beach along with a pier surrounded by shops, cafes and with rides for the kids.

A Holiday in Burnham-on-Sea provides you with a great base for visiting other parts of Somerset. Weston-Super-Mare, with its own famous sands makes a good day out, and attractions include the SeaQuarium on the seafront and the Grand Pier.

If you like a spooky treat, visit the nearby Wookey Hole, famous for its witch, and see the fabulous caves. The exhibition centre also includes a paper mill, and a museum of Penny Arcade machines. Close by is also the magnificent Cheddar Gorge, where you can not only visit the caves where cheese was originally stored, the brave can try rock climbing and the more cautious among us can take an open top bus tour of the gorge. Don’t forget to buy some of the locally produced cheese, strong enough to blow your head off.

Back in Burnham-on-Sea is Brean Leisure Park with over 30 rides & attractions, including roundabouts, roller coasters, a log flume, and a swimming pool complex with 4 waterslides and indoor and outdoor pools. In Berrow itself is Animal Farm Adventure Park, a rare breeds farm with an all-weather play barn which is great for rainy days. With ball pits, tunnels, zip slides, a free fall slide, astra and tube slides there is something for kids of all ages.

Best Kids Attractions In Cornwall
Cornwall is one of the UK’s most popular regions for holidays – especially family holidays.  It is fortunate to have some of the UK’s most beautiful beaches, as good for building sandcastles as they are for surfing.  The north of Cornwall has the best beaches, particularly Newquay and St. Ives, however there are some lovely beaches to be found on the south coast too.

Travel Sickness Solutions
Travel sickness occurs when small repetitive movements such as those experienced in a car, boat or aeroplane mean that the brain is sent different messages – your body is sitting still but your eyes tell you that you are moving. Children are more prone to travel sickness than adults, and many children grow out of it.

Trunki Towgo
The Trunki Ride-On Suitcase has been one of the big success stories of the BBC’s ‘Dragon’s Den’. The suitcase, designed especially for children, has a double purpose; not only can children pack their own toys and belongings for a holiday in their own easy-to-use case (which is hand luggage approved), but if they are bored waiting in an airport lounge the suitcase becomes a fun ride on toy that they can whizz around on, or just use as the perfect child-sized seat to rest their weary legs in a long queue.
