The most popular babynames given to boys and girls in England and Wales have been revealed today (9th July 2026) and it shows that the two most popular names have remained the same as last year. For boys the top name is Muhammad while the most popular name for girls is Olivia.
The figures are collated by the Office of National Statistics each year and are based on the birth statistics for the whole of 2025.
Here are the full lists of names.
Muhammad and Noah remain the two most popular boys names in England and Wales from 2024, while Leo goes up two places from 5th to 3rd place, Luca goes up three places to land in the top 5, and Arthur drops one place to 5th place.
While Olivia remains the most popular girls name in England and Wales, there is also little change in the top five names. Isla is still in 4th place, the same as 2024. Lily and Amelia have swapped places since last year and Florence has gone up just one place to just squeak into the top five names.
If you have a little one on the way, here are some tips for choosing your baby's name.
