Spring is here and it’s time to see what are the upcoming movie releases for all the family in UK cinemas.
We’re looking ahead to Summer 2025 and what’s going to be on at the cinema in June, July and August and what will be released for the long summer holiday.
There’s a whole bumper bundle of movies out this summer for families – from dragons to tigers and space aliens to dinosaurs, here are the movies to look out for this summer!

As the school holidays loom closer you will be looking for things to do, so a trip to the cinema is a great way to keep the little ones occupied.
Here are the family movies for everyone from toddlers to kids and teens showing nationwide at the moment.
Elio (Cert PG) is a new animated movie from Disney Pixar released on 20th June.
Elio is a space fanatic with an active imagination and a huge alien obsession. He struggles to fit in, until he is transported by aliens and becomes the chosen one to be Earth's galactic ambassador while his mother Olga works on the top-secret project to decode alien messages.
With the voices of Brad Garrett, Shriley Henderson, Jameela Jamil, Yonas Kibreab and Oscar winner Zoe Saldana.
The much touted live action remake of the 2010 animated movie How To Train Your Dragon (Cert PG) is out on 9th June 2025.
On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup - the inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast – stands apart. He defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society.
The cast includes Mason Thames, Nico Parker, Gerard Butler, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Nick Frost, Ruth Codd and Kate Kennedy.
When young superhero-obsessed Max wanders into the jungle during a family picnic, he stumbles upon Zuzu, a rare talking tiger on the run from poachers. In Jungle Trouble (Cert U), what starts as a comic encounter turns into a race against time, as Max and Zuzu must outwit a bumbling gang of animal traffickers.
Along the way, they forge an unbreakable friendship, learning about bravery, teamwork, and the wild world beyond screens and homework. Packed with dazzling animation, daring escapes, and laugh-out-loud moments, Jungle Trouble is a heart-pounding jungle adventure with a big heart and even bigger roar.
The voice cast includes Hooman Haji Abdollahi, Alireza Dibaj and Mahsa Erfani and is released on 4th July.
Set five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, in Jurassic: World Rebirth (Cert TBC) the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs.
Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.
Starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Ed Skrein, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Philippine Velge, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Bechir Sylvain, the movie opens on 2nd July.

In this special treat for pre-schoolers, The Great Ice Cream Hunt (Cert U) is the perfect CBeebies summer cinema event! It is released on 11th July.
When all the ice creams go missing, Lolly the cow and Pinecone the hedgehog team up for a musical road trip to save the Empress of Storyland's Summer Send-Off! During their adventure, Lolly and Pinecone get to know the Storyland Rangers at Coconut Cove, learn some magical moves at Mermaid Falls and help a stressed-out caterpillar find his voice at the Summer Fruits Festival. Eventually, Lolly and Pinecone track down their main suspect, the rain-loving Professor Raindrop. But was he really the one who took the ice creams?
Featuring a host of well-known faces, the cast includes Justin Fletcher, Andy Day, Maddie Moate, Alex Phelps, George Webster and Dodge the Dog.
This latest movie in the franchise, Smurfs (Cert TBC), features an all-star voice cast including Rihanna as Smurfette. It is in cinemas from 15th July 2025.
When Papa Smurf is mysteriously taken by evil wizards, Razamel and Gargamel, Smurfette leads the Smurfs on a mission into the real world to save him. With the help of new friends, the Smurfs must discover what defines their destiny to save the universe.
Along with Rihanna, voices are provided by John Goodman, Amy Sedaris, Sandra Oh, Xolo Maridueña, Dan Levy, JP Karliak, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, Alex Winter, Billie Lourd and Kurt Russell.
In this follow up to 2022’s The Bad Guys, the imaginatively titled The Bad Guys 2 (Cert TBC) is out on 25th July.
The Bad Guys are struggling to find trust and acceptance in their newly minted lives as Good Guys, when they are pulled out of retirement and forced to do “one last job” by an all-female squad of criminals.
Voice cast includes Zazie Beetz, Marc Maron, Richard Ayoade, Lilly Singh, Alex Borstein, Awkwafina , Sam Rockwell, Craig Robinson and Anthony Ramos.
The original 1976 movie version of Freaky Friday was based on the much-loved novel by Mary Rodgers and starred the future Oscar winner Jodie Foster, then aged just 14. It was remade and updated in 2003 starring Jamie Lee Curtis and then ‘wild child’ Lindsay Lohan.
The premise was that a mother and daughter wake up one day to find themselves in each other’s body and have to live each other’s lives until they can swap back. In Freakier Friday (Cert TBC) Curtis and Lohan return as older and wiser versions of the mother Tess and daughter Anna, who now has a child of her own.
Anna Coleman and her mother Tess are in another predicament when they swap bodies with Anna's daughter. Now it's up to the three to reverse the body swap.
Out on 8th August the movie also stars Stephen Tobolowsky, Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Rosalind Chao and Chad Michael Murray.
Here are the films from May Half Term 2025 which are still showing in some UK cinemas.
The latest animated classic to receive the live action treatment from Disney is the much loved 2002 animation, Lilo & Stitch (Cert U) released on 23rd May 2025.
It’s the wildly funny and touching story of a lonely Hawaiian girl Lilo and the fugitive alien, Stitch, who helps to mend her broken family.
The film stars Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Hannah Waddingham, Chris Sanders, with Courtney B. Vance, and Zach Galifianakis, introducing Maia Kealoha.
After a family tragedy, kung fu prodigy Li Fong is uprooted from his home in Beijing and forced to move to New York City with his mother.
In Karate Kid: Legends (Cert TBA) the latest film in the Karate Kid franchise, Li struggles to let go of his past as he tries to fit in with his new classmates, and although he doesn't want to fight, trouble seems to find him everywhere.
However when Li’s kung fu teacher Mr. Han introduces him to original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso, Li learns a new way to fight, merging their two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown.
The movie opens on 30th May 2025 and stars Ralph Macchio, Jackie Chan, Ben Wang, Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley and Ming-Na Wen.
